SINOPSIS: Terminada la Guerra de Secesión (1861-1865), el general Owen Thursday, tras ser degradado, es enviado a Fort Apache en calidad de coronel para hacerse cargo del mando. El fuerte, situado en medio del desierto de Arizona, es un puesto militar fronterizo cuyos soldados están curtidos en la lucha contra los apaches mescaleros.
